![]() The difficulty settings which the player selects when starting a playthrough determines the ratio of the damage which the player’s ship takes when it is hit to the damage that enemies take when they are hit. The story is not to be taken seriously, but it does provide context for the levels which the player would play. Soon enough, he gets roped into missions and eventually a campaign against MicroSol, and also has to deal with some ancient terrible space thing that evil corporations tend to stir up. Unfortunately, a turn of events involving the death of his parents at the hands of the evil corporation MicroSol had him going on the run. The player character is Trent Hawkins, who wants to be just a simple pilot doing safe jobs. However, instead of presenting a grim and gritty dystopian future, Tyrian 2000 features a deliberately ham-fisted story about evil corporations which exploit outrageous technology for supremacy. Tyrian 2000 is also one of the earliest sci-fi computer games to make use of the premise of corporations being real powers in the future. The game takes place in a sci-fi future where humanity has expanded to the stars.
